“Free and open to the pub­lic, the NY Art Book Fair is the world’s premi­er event for artists‹ books, cata­logs, mono­graphs, peri­od­ic­als, and zines. Last year, the fair fea­tured 283 book­sellers, anti­quar­i­ans, artists, and inde­pend­ent pub­lish­ers from twenty-six coun­tries, and was atten­ded by more than 25,000 people.”

Con­tem­por­ary Artists’ Books Con­fer­ence

The sixth annu­al Con­tem­por­ary Artists’ Books Con­fer­ence presents two full days of lively debate on emer­ging prac­tices and issues with­in art-book cul­ture. This year’s con­fer­ence will fea­ture key­note addresses by noted crit­ic Clive Phill­pot and artist War­ren Lehr­er, as well as ses­sions cov­er­ing a broad array of top­ics, includ­ing: Design Authors and Auteurs: Design­ers‹ Books and Pub­lic­a­tions, with Bri­an Roet­tinger, Lauren Mack­ler, Tan­ya Rub­bak, and Adam Michaels; Text Engines, on the use of rule-based strategies to gen­er­ate or repro­cess text, with Craig Dwor­kin, Rob Fit­ter­man, and Joey Yearous-Algoz­in; Exper­i­ment­al Com­ics, with Gabe Fowl­er, Andrei Molo­tiu, and Dav­id Sand­lin; Fur­ther­ing the Crit­ic­al Dia­logue, with Jen­nifer Krivick­as, Philip Zim­mer­mann, and Jon Evans dis­cuss­ing Michael Snow’s Cov­er to Cov­er; The Book Is No Image, mod­er­ated by artist Pra­deep Dalal, on innov­at­ive ways to man­age the rela­tion­ships between pho­to­books and the exhib­i­tion of pho­to­graph­ic works; a ses­sion on ped­agogy fea­tur­ing edu­cat­ors whose meth­od­o­logy involves tak­ing on the increas­ingly flu­id roles of maker, teach­er, lib­rar­i­an, cur­at­or, and/​or crit­ic; and the return of the Pecha Kucha ses­sion, fea­tur­ing ten speak­ers present­ing for five minutes each.”
